Chicago has been one of the most known cities for its violence and deaths that come with it. Take a look at homicide rates from the past ten years.

Chicago is one of the top cities in the country to have a high murder rate, along with high amount of violence.

It is to be seen that the majority of the violence and homicides seen in Chicago, according to Stanford News come from Black neighborhoods. Neighborhoods such as the West and South side of Chicago.

Although there is a high number of homicides and violence in these neighborhoods, there is less media coverage about what is happening in these communities.

As seen, the majority of victims are Black, but according to Intellectual Takeout those who are murdering Black individuals are also Black. The majority of these individuals are males and involved with gun violence as well.

Last year, according to Chicago Sun Times, Chicago recorded 774 homicides, the most homicides in four years. Even though with COVID beginning to worsen in 2020, violence in Chicago also rose at a dangerous level.

With the panic of unemployment, loss of income, illness and death with COVID hitting communities with a large number of people of color with low income. According to USA Today, it has shown fear and vulnerability that comes out as violence.

Chicago has not seen these high numbers of homicides since 2016.

According to CNN in 2016, there were 762 homicides and 4,331 shooting victims. Not only was there violence within citizens, but the attack on police also doubled in 2016 compared to the previous year.

The city has not seen this amount of homicides in almost two decades since 2016.
